What’s up, doc?

January has passed quickly by and February is almost upon us. It just seems like we were celebrating the New Year. January was a quiet month just staying out of the weather and trying to keep warm. There were a couple of nice days that made me really think that I should get the Goldwing out and take it for a ride, which I'm sorry to say. But early riding season is only a month or so out!

Don’t forget that we have a couple of things going on in the month of February so mark your calendars.

February 6 - Having a combined meeting with WA–R, ID-B at Pataha Flour Mill in Pomeroy at 11:00 am. The food is great and so is the Flour Mill! You won’t be disappointed. Please RSVP with Jim and Laura Young at 509-337-6562. For those of you that want to caravan together meet at the HAPO parking lot, north of the RED LION in Pasco at 9:00. Kick stands or brakes off at 9:15.

February 11 - Staff meeting at 6:00pm Mid-Columbia library on Union Street, everyone is invite to attend.

February 13 - Chapter Meeting. The Lindsey’s have challenged the chapter to wear a hat that has something to do with one of our Presidents of the United States, if you don’t have one they will have one for you. This should be FUN!!!

Also First Aid/CPR, this class is already full. 1-4pm at the Finley’s 4131 W. Hood Kennewick.

February 14 – Guys don’t forget to get your favorite gal a VALENTINE!!!

Hope to see you at the above mentioned activities. Have a great and safe month! Page2

If you have never seen the movie “Why we ride” I highly recommend taking some time to watch it. This flick will get your heart racing, and tug some heart strings along the way. In this movie one of the things that is discussed, how motorcycle racing got its start. According to the movie, motorcycles were used to pull bicycles to racing speeds, the motorcycle riders pulling the bicyclist started messing around racing each other and crowds loved it.

I recently read this article and thought you might need a break from ME ranting, so I contacted the editor at Motorcycle Consumer news about the reproduction of the following article, and I got the “Go Ahead”, with one caveat you will soon see. So without any further ado, enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed the article as much as I did. Could you imagine riding our 900+lb gorillas on oily wooden planks?

Don’t miss February's monthly Chapter L meeting, I will be talking about something you may not want to miss. See you then!

Remember, the ride is all about you. Page 3

Membership Enhancement

Rob and Gail Lindsley

We are Rob and Gail Lindsley. We live in Richland, WA and belong to WA-Ch L. We were married in 2011 and joined GWRRA in 2012. Rob has ridden Goldwings since the 70’s but two wheeling is relatively new to Gail. We have 3 furry babies and Gail has 3 grown children. She is STILL waiting on grandchildren. Gail works full time as an RN and Rob is semi-retired.

At the present time, late January, our Goldwing is overwintering in storage. At the first hint of warm weather we will be bringing it home to ride. We love to attend rallies and chapter functions and are looking forward to attending our first WingDing this year. This is our first office position in GWRRA, and we are looking forward to recruiting new members to the Chapter, while bringing new and fun ideas to everyone.

Registrations are already coming in hard and fast, with pre-registration hitting record numbers. You don’t want to miss out on that kind of FUN!

Opening ceremonies will be held on August 31, but we have a very exciting day planned on August 30 that you really won’t want to miss. As you all know, the International Couple of the Year selection process is held on that day. This year, we’re making it even more FUN. We’ll be holding a COY Boot camp that morning for anyone (COYs, MECs, COY Coordinators, Directors, judges) who has interest in the COY program. Not only will the boot camp cover topics designed to assist a COY in participating in the selection process, but it will also be an informative resource for coordinators and individuals who are asked to judge the selection process. And of course, all of this will be imparted with all of the FUN we can muster!

But wait—there’s more! In addition to the excitement of the Couples’ oral presentations that afternoon, there will be an Awards Ceremony after the oral presentations that will include the MEC of the Year, Newsletter Award, Chapter of the Year presentation, Merit / Director of the Year presentation, and will culminate in the announcement of the new International Couple of the Year. This will be one FUN afternoon, and we don’t want anyone to miss out!

2016 Region and District Rallies

Our Assistant Directors, Ron and Bev Clark, put together a great spreadsheet listing all of the 2016 rally dates that are currently available in one document.  We hope that you will take a look at this schedule and, since it’s the season of giving, give yourself the gift of registering yourself for a rally that’s perhaps outside of your District or Region.  When we visit our cohorts in other areas, we discover new and exciting ways to have FUN!
